SUMMARY
Horne has been a name to remember having impressed through the junior pathways and despite being a smaller body, was not afraid to compete against senior opposition at SANFL Women’s level. The Bays forward played five games in her debut season of 2023 where she averaged 9.2 disposals and 5.0 tackles pressuring the opposition consistently.
Fast forward to 2024, and Horne made the South Australian summer squad, though just missed the final cut of 30 due to the strength across the board within the Croweaters’ side. She pieced together a great SANFLW carnival prior to the national championships, averaging almost a goal per game (10 majors from 11 matches) while averaging 6.9 disposals and 4.7 tackles.
Naturally with her tackle numbers being so high, Horne provides that perfect defensive presence at ground level to play the role of clever small forward, crumbing at the feet of her teammates. However over the preseason, the Bays small has been training further afield to gain some midfield minutes which could take her game to another level in 2025.
A highly competitive player with clean skills and smart at ground level, Horne is one who has all the traits to be a damaging player be it inside 50 or through the middle. While not a huge accumulator, gaining more midfield minutes will allow her to be around the ball more often, and given her defensive, team-first mindset, she could add a point of difference to both the Bays and Croweaters onball groups.
