2025 WAFLW club preview: Swan Districts

WELCOMING back some key players on and off the field, Swan Districts looms as a threat once again. In the logjam of teams that are in likely finals contention, the Black Ducks a nice balance of youth and experience in 2025.

LAST SEASON: 4th
2025 PREDICTION: 2nd-6th

The Swans enjoyed a really strong preseason and are set to focus in on going deeper than in 2024, with a well-balanced list across all thirds of the ground. If everything goes right, there is no reason why the side cannot push for a flag, and should be there when the whips are cracking late in thw season.

Comments by West Australian Female Talent Manager Trent Cooper

Carys D’Addario
Midfielder/Forward | 168cm | 01/03/2007

“Carys has had a terrible run with injury. Missed both the 16s championships two years ago and the 18s championships last year. Again looking long-term we’ve had a slower build up but she’s now in full training and really impressing with the work that she’s does and you expect her to have a really good year for Swan Districts as a midfielder-forward.”

Sienna Gerardi
Forward | 163cm | 16/10/2007

“Sienna’s at the moment more focused on the basketball side of things so similar to Alira Fotu, hopefully we get to see a lot more of her once that basketball season has finished. But really excitement small forward who can play on a wing with that elite speed.”

Ava Stewart
Tall Defender | 180cm | 25/11/2007

“Ava’s a developing defender whose grown a heap in the last 12 months but I think she may have hit 180cm which is very exciting. Really competitive, good overhead, really good decision maker by foot as well. We’re looking forward to seeing her work alongside Evie Cowcher and Olivia Crane in that back half.”

KEY PLAYERS

Jaime Henry
Midfielder | 175cm | 05/10/2005

After crossing to the Western Bulldogs’ VFLW program for a season, the Swan Districts junior is home again and ready to make an impact. Tough but clean and strong in the air or at ground level, Henry is a huge inclusion for the Black Ducks. She adds that consistent ball-winning and contested element, and is a player that the coaches know what to expect from each and every week.

Courtney Zappara
Forward | 167cm | 04/04/2002

As damaging a forward as there is, Zappara will enjoy the additional midfield options as well as inside 50 targets to take heat away from her. She is so dangerous in one-on-one situations either on the lead or once the ball hits the deck, converting a lot of the chances she gets in a match. A competition leading goalkicker chance.

Eliza Gelmi
Defender | 169cm | 07/07/1997

The co-captain was a wealth of experience in the back half last season, so expect much of the same in 2025. Gelmi is a really underrated player in the sense that she can play lockdown roles, but also create run and carry from defence. With more support from the midfield getting back, Gelmi can begin transitions from the back half into attack.
