Nolan, Casboult honoured at QAFL/W Awards night

BOND University’s Shannon Nolan and Palm Beach Currumbin’s Levi Casboult have taken out this year’s top awards at the QAFL and QAFL Women’s Awards night on Sunday. In the 80th running of the J.A Grogan Medal, the ex-Blue and Suns key forward needed until the very last game of the season to take out the medal, while Nolan took out the Emma Zielke Medal in convincing fashion.

Casboult was awarded three votes in Palm Beach Currumbin’s final game of the season to see him overtake Surfers Paradise’s Benjamin Woodburn by two votes, and also sneak past second placed – and ineligible – Jack Rolls by one vote. Nolan polled 18 votes and was also named in the QAFLW Team of the Year for her efforts throughout the 2025 season.

Fellow Palm Beach Currumbin talent Harry Benson was awarded the QAFL Coaches Most Valuable Player (MVP), while Labrador’s Justin Krok won the Rising Star. Bringing up his ton on the weekend, Redland Victoria Point’s Matt Hammelmann was a force inside 50, slotting 93 regular season goals to collect the Ray Hughson Medal.

Morningside pair Laura Roy and Isabella Levine were named the Coaches MVP and Rising Star respectively in the QAFL Women’s. The duo was named in the Team of the Year, while Nolan’s Bond University teammate Kendra Blattman booted 40 goals in season 2025 and was also among the 21 players named in the most prestigious side for the year.
