SNAPSHOT:

Kendra Blattman is a strong utility who can play both forward and through the ruck, though is likely to only be the former if she makes it to AFLW level. Standing at 176cm, Blattman is a touch undersized to be a ruck, but she does have a great aerial ability and powerful kick that enables her to have an influence inside 50. Though some areas of her athletic profile could improve, she has some natural footballing traits.

STRENGTHS:

+ Contested marking
+ Kicking
+ Vertical leap
+ Strength
+ Scoreboard impact

IMPROVEMENTS:

- Speed
- Endurance

PROFILE:

Blattman started the year with the Sydney Swans Academy, and after an okay first-up game against the Stingrays, the top-ager went forward and booted three goals from 18 disposals, three marks and six tackles against the Bushrangers, while dominating the hitouts with 25 for the match. What she showed in the game was a natural goal sense to go with a powerful kick and competitive nature in the air.

Though Blattman is that touch undersized to play ruck at AFLW level, her vertical leap allows her to punch above her weight. She has great body positioning and uses her strong frame to get into the right spots and get the ball to ground or into the hands of her teammates. Blattman plays within her strengths well and could certainly be a second ruck with a predominant forward role at the top level.

The main knock on Blattman will be around improving her endurance as well as some of her more ground level athletic traits such as speed and agility. What she lacks in toe, she makes up in strength, but improving those elements will add an extra string to her bow. From an overall off-field perspective, her leap is above average and that enables her to compete in the air.

From her athletic profile to her footballing profile, and Blattman is definitely a kick-dominant player. That is with good reason as she has a powerful and damaging kick. She showed during the Talent League that she was capable of slamming home a goal off 40m from a step, or clunking a contested mark in the goalsquare and making no mistake from the set shot.

Averaging a goal a game in the Talent League, Blattman's numbers of 11.3 disposals and 17.0 hitouts are very impressive for a 176cm player. Anywhere inside the forward 50 arc, Blattman is a chance of doing damage, and she has shown she can play at senior level, booting four goals in six games for Sydney University this year.

Overall, Blattman might not be as explosive as some other talls in the draft crop, and needs to continue to work on her endurance, but she has an impact on games both through the ruck and up forward. The Swans Academy member has the tools to be a contested marking forward who can consistently hit the scoreboard, and that is a role that is vital at the elite level.

SUMMARY:

Kendra Blattman has ties to the Swans Academy and is among a host of players who could be picked up in the NSW/ACT group. Her natural footballing ability and key marking and kicking traits are what shine, and she will be a player who can worry opposition defenders on-on-one. In an even draft crop, Blattman is a later draft selection, but could fill a need at the Swans or even the GIANTS.
