THERE were a number of standout players in round two who continued their good form from the week before, while some fresh faces also impressed in the four games last weekend. Each week, we will compile the AFL Draft Central Team of the Week, where the best 21 players of the round get a spot, while others may be unlucky to miss out.

Carlton captain Brianna Davey has been a standout throughout the first two rounds of the AFLW season. The skipper is currently leading the AFLW coaches’ votes with 13, alongside Bulldog, Emma Kearney. With five minutes left in her second-round encounter with GWS, she unfortunately tore her ACL and will be out for the remainder of the season, which will undoubtedly be a major blow for the ladder-leaders.

Melbourne has dominated this week’s best 21 with five representatives, following a stellar performance against the reigning premiers. But their opposition was not as fortunate, with only one Crow featuring in the Team of the Week. Similarly, only one Giant made it into this week’s squad, after they lost to the Blues. 

Although Davey suffered a season-ending injury, she was still an automatic selection in the round two Team of the Week, with a best-on-ground performance against the Giants, amassing a perfect 10 coaches’ votes. The Carlton captain was a lock in the backline, gathering 16 possessions and leading from the front all day.

Darebin superstar, Karen Paxman was the other standout from the weekend, collecting 21 disposals in an impressive display. After missing most of last week’s match with a lower-back injury, Paxman has joined experienced leaders, Daisy Pearce and Elise O’Dea to form a formidable trio in the Melbourne midfield. It is a trio that will be hard to match, and is a big reason why Melbourne are undefeated, and flag favourites.

Brisbane’s Ally Anderson and Melbourne’s Kate Hore have fair reasoning to feel unlucky not to be selected in the Team of the Week, with both playing terrific games over the weekend. Anderson never gave up for the Lions with 16 touches, while Hore played a major role in handing Adelaide its second straight loss, collecting 20 disposals for Melbourne across half-forward.
