Team of the Week: VFLW – Round 6

AFTER the Queen’s birthday bye it is still Geelong and Northern Territory (NT) Thunder who are sitting pretty on top of the Victorian Football League (VFL) Women’s ladder with five wins after six rounds. Essendon are still on the bottom of the ladder as the only side yet to record a win following the Western Bulldogs’ triumph in round six.

In Round 6, Williamstown and the Western Bulldogs have dominated this round’s AFL Draft Central VFL Women’s Team of the Week to have four players each. Melbourne University and the Southern Saints only have one representative each after their disappointing performances in round six.

Jessica Francke of the Western Bulldogs was a automatic pick for the Team of the Week, as she dominated the forward line with five goals. Richmond’s Jenna Colwell was also very instrumental up forward with two goals and 14 disposals. Other regulars who made the team include Williamstown’s Jess Duffin and Jenna Bruton, as well as Western Bulldogs’ Libby Birch and Geelong’s Richelle Cranston.

Lily Mithen tried hard all day for Darebin but unfortunately not quite enough to earn a spot in the Team of the Week. Melbourne University duo, Ashleigh Riddell and Emma Kearney were also unlukcy omissions, as they were shinning lights in a disappointing outing for the Mugars.
