Tasmania vs. Queensland U17s recap

In a game which saw Tasmania triumph over Queensland by 37 points, 14.12 (96) to 9.5 (59), there were a number of standouts to keep an eye on for the coming years. The Devils dominated the midfield in the victory, though it was the star power of Lachlan Cowan and Tom McCallum who caught the eye, with 2023 AFL Draft prospects Ryley Sanders also among the best. Cameron Owen, Colby McKercher, Seth Campbell and Jack Callinan also impressed for the Devils. From Queensland, we spoke about the impact Riley McMillan had as the standout, with some solid contributions from movers like Bailey Tome, Cooper Langan and Kye Reynoldson in midfield, whilst skipper Ben McCarthy was great in defence, and the forward pairing of Levi Fyffe and Liam Hude also caught the eye.

Tasmania vs. Queensland Under 19s

Queensland got its own back with a terrific win in the Under 19s, though not without a late scare in the final term. They lead by six goals late in the third quarter, before Tasmania piled on seven of the next eight goals to draw within a couple of points, but fell short, 9.8 (62) to 8.12 (60) as Sam Tilley missed a long-range set shot after the siren. Queensland had a couple of impressive bottom-agers in the clash with Cody Harrington and father-son prospect Jaspa Fletcher standing out, whilst the big men in Will Bella and Jack Briskey hit the scoreboard, and Toby Triffett was solid as ever in midfield. For the Devils, Oliver Sanders was the top talent, with fellow top-agers Ollie Davis and Sam Collins almost dragging their side over the line in the last term. Zac Morris, Baker Smith and Tyler McGinniss also had plenty of it standing up in defence.

Under 17 Futures – Team Blue vs. Team Yellow

It was a frantic finish in the battle of the best of South Australia for next year and beyond, with the Under 17s split into Team Blue and Team Yellow. The former ended up triumphing thanks to a winning goal from Nick Sadler out of the middle, moments after it looked like Kobe Ryan had won the game for Yellow. Ryan was a clear class above across the match, and was outstanding across the entire game. He was joined by the likes of Taj Rahui and Will Rolands among the best, with Alex Holt and Austin McDonald also impressing in midfield. Up forward, Patrick Weckert stood tall, with skipper Will Verrall producing a great effort. Jack Delean booted multiple goals for Blue, with Nick Sadler and Tyson Walls providing run for the losing side. Tyson Coe had a truckload of the ball, whilst Jayden Matz and Harry Barnett were promising talls in the game. Post-podcast recording information Since the podcast was recorded, the Queensland and Tasmania players were restricted from travelling to South Australia due to border restrictions, and instead many of the Under 17s players will fill the void for the Allies team, along with some notable names from the Northern Territory.
