Recap
Matt Balmer’s scouting notes:
Murray Bushrangers:
#15 Isaac Wallace– Bushrangers midfielder Isaac Wallace was the clear best on ground winning a lot of footy in the centre. Wallace has a nice left foot kick by no means is it elite- But it can be damaging as he spears a lot of passes to teammates. Wallace was clean around the stoppages and has impressed me in the last few weeks at Ikon Park.
#34 Jordon Butts– Although the bottom ager didn’t get much of the ball, Butts really caught my eye. Butts kicked two goals and moved very well around the ground for a player at 194cm. One to keep an eye on for 2017.
#40 Todd Marshall– Arguably the GWS Academy member’s best TAC Cup game for the season. Marshall kicked three goals playing at full forward. I still have a few question marks on whether he moves well enough to play inside 50 but he played a really solid game. Marshall has an interesting set shot action going for goal- But it proved effective on Sunday.
Gippsland Power:
#10 Deven Costigan– Costigan spent most of the game in defence taking the kick outs and setting up behind the ball. He was the Power’s best player of the day and continued to fight right up until the final siren. He spread really well from defence and set up numerous plays from defensive 50. He had one moment where he ran 100m from Half back to link up to a passage of play and set up a goal early.
#24 Sean Masterson– Tall forward Masterson took some really nice grabs inside 50 for the Power. He also hit the scoreboard twice and was one of their key targets up forward. Masterson has nice hands and took a really strong pack mark in the final quarter.
#32 Kade Renooy– Renooy spent most the day on the inside winning the ball for the Power. The right footer has good dash and poise with the ball in hand. He hit the scoreboard in the third quarter but missed a chance early which I think he should have taken.
