Ruck

#28

Clay Tucker

height: 204cm

weight: 99kg

D.O.B: 09-08-2004

Leagues: Coates Talent League Boys

STRENGTHS:

+ Ruck craft
+ Positioning
+ Athleticism

IMPROVEMENTS:

- Raw
- Versatility

With an imposing 204cm frame, it is not hard to see why Tucker has attracted suitors ahead of the 2022 AFL Draft. Representing the Eastern Ranges in the NAB League, the towering ruck might weigh in at 99kg, but he can also leap and is mobile considering his size. This allows him to cover the ground well, and though he is still raw, is one with potential.

Averaging 20 hitouts per game is no easy feat in itself, but the way Tucker controls his taps and the ruck contests is impressive, placing them well into the path of his midfielders, with the ability to tap it over congestion for outside runners as well. Tucker does well with his positioning around the ground, playing as the ‘kick behind’ big man and creating contests when the opposition rush a kick down the line. His work rate and ability to improve himself is important, and while he is not a consistent marker just yet, he gets into the right areas.

Currently Tucker is quite a raw prospect, gifted with height and athleticism but yet to put it together with his skills, and he will be a bit of a project ruckman for a club at the next level. He also does not impact a lot in other positions currently, which is something that clubs will look to work on. Given the rarity of his strength and athleticism combination, Tucker is one that may not go high, but if taken, could be a handy player of the future with his upside.
