Eva Popovsky shot into draft contention in her first season of WAFL Women's football as she played 12 games for Subiaco and was included in the West Australian State Squad for 2023. The nuggety midfielder-forward is so strong with a low centre of gravity and a fierce competitor.

Her high-level endurance - she finished just outside the top 10 nationally in the preseason yo-yo test - helps her cover the ground and provide repeat efforts to contest. She is largely a contested player either inside or as a pressure forward, but her footy IQ allows her to have a great understanding of the game and know where to be and when.

Popovsky does lack the athleticism of some others in her role, and her production is a touch lower at times, but if she can continue to develop, it is easy to forget it was her first full season at the level. As an over-ager, Popovsky has plenty of years left in the system, and her defensive game along with her inside work will hold her in good stead for the future.
