Georgia Madigan is a unique prospect available to the two South Australian teams in this year's AFLW Draft. Highly rated internally at Central District for her outstanding defending, Madigan began to get plaudits for her work last season by making the SANFLW Team of the Year. There might be flashier players running around in defence, but few could top Madigan's defensive work, especially one-on-one and consistency. She showed throughout a premiership year that she was willing to do all the team things in order to get her side across the line.

The question mark for the 24-year-old is around the speed that some other defenders have, while also she is focusing in on developing her fundamentals further. But in an age where dangerous small forwards can win sides games, the 163cm defender could play a role. She is hard to beat and ultra-competitive, and showed against some quality opponents this year that she is capable of shutting out a forward while providing some drive from defence.

A natural competitive player, Madigan is one who worked her way onto draft boards this season, upping her numbers and efficiency by foot, and quickly became one of the safest and consistent defenders in the SANFLW competition. Having nominated South Australia in the AFLW Draft, both Port Adelaide and Adelaide may view Madigan as a readymade defender who can play a role.
