SNAPSHOT: “A strong general defender with a terrific speed-endurance mix who takes the game on out of the back half.”
Isabelle Creaton has plenty of traits that clubs will love, and she showed throughout the 2025 season that she is capable of adapting them into the game. A hard-running defender who has also spent time up forward and through the middle over the years in spurts, Creaton’s best success has come as that ultra-competitive defender who is so good one-on-one for her size.
Creaton’s footballing journey started once she was out of Auskick, joining Ferntree Gully Eagles’ Under 12s in 2016. She immediately made an impact, booting nine goals from 17 games, and within three seasons had notched up 53 games to her name. No doubt her total 150 games played over the past decade would have been greater had it not been for the global pandemic, but the talented junior picked up straight where she left off.
Returning to the field in 2021, she was now in the Under 16s Eagles’ B and C sides where she was able to also earn a spot in the interleague team, named amongst the best in th Eastern Football Netball League’s representative game. She continued both the next season, elevated up to the Under 16s’ A side and looked at home, while running out in the annual interleague matches.
When her double bottom-age year of 2023 rolled around, the 16-year-old filtered into the Ranges’ Futures program, playing two games, before heading back to her new side at Blackburn, averaging a goal per game across 14 matches. While not able to crack into the strong Eastern Ranges’ Coates Talent League side, she would achieve that feat the next year.
Cementing her place in the team as a bottom-ager, Creaton was a rock behind the ball, averaging 8.9 disposals and 2.5 tackles. While she was still developing, the Ranges prospect was already showing some of her athletic gifts, and ability to drive the ball from the back half down the ground.
Despite missing out on the Vic Metro hub, Creaton continued to work hard, and lifted her numbers up to 11.5 disposals and 3.0 tackles throughout the Coates Talent League Girls season, not winning a stack of it, but making the most of her run-and-carry with plenty of metres gained. That form saw her secure a spot in the final Vic Metro squad, where she averaged 7.3 disposals, 3.5 tackles and 1.8 rebound 50s playing all four games.
At the end of the season, Creaton got to taste premiership success for the Ranges after narrowly missing out the year before, and had received a State Draft Combine invitation where she would be able to show off some of her biggest strengths.

STRENGTHS:
+ Explosive speed
+ Run-and-carry
+ Defensive pressure
+ One-on-ones
+ Competitiveness
+ Contested work
+ Endurance
IMPROVEMENTS:
- Groundballs
- Production
- Kicking efficiency
Creaton's game is built off a blend of her competitiveness, and run-and-carry which is helped by her outstanding speed-endurance mix. Those key traits underpin her game and are why she has been able to develop to the point where she is an AFLW Draft chance. While her kicking efficiency could improve, and can be more effective at winning the ball in teh air and cleaner at ground level, the Eastern Ranges defender has plenty to like about her game.
Starting at the athletic side, Creaton clocked a blistering time of 3.252 seconds in the 20m sprint, and 8.504 seconds in the agility test, while posting a 65cm running jump. Ranked among the top 10s for the State Draft Combine invitees across the board in those tests - as well as for all Draft Combine invitees in the sprint and running vertical jump - Creaton's athletic profile is terrific.
The key for players with her kind of numbers is being able to apply it to her game, and she certainly does that out of the back half. Best suited to receiving the ball by hand and then bursting away, Creaton is not afraid to back herself out of defence, often taking a bounce or two before kicking down the ground. The latter part is an improvement for her to refine, but by the time its hit its target, the ball has transitioned 50 or 60m up the field.
Outside of that clear highlight in her game, is a hunger that Creaton has for the contest, and to assist in her team winning at all costs. She thrives when there is a ball to be one, and she will apply plenty of defensive pressure be it through direct or implied pressure. Her one-on-ones are very good, and Creaton's strength for her 164cm height is also impressive.
On top of her speed, Creaton also has some great endurance which enables her to run out games well and wear down opponents. That ability to run off when required, or lockdown if needed, is a valuable two-way tool for any club to use.
Speaking to Creaton, a couple of her key improvements include being more consistent at groundballs, particularly when the conditions are not perfect, as well as he kicking efficiency, which while it does go a fair distance, can be refined to be more precise. She ran at around 50 per cent by foot at the national championships and under that at Coates Talent League level, but she did win a higher rate of contested possessions (58.7 per cent) and was often under immense pressure.
Likewise, Creaton averages around one mark per game, at just eight per cent and 10 per cent of her ball-winning methods for Coates Talent League and AFLW Under 18 Championships. The bulk of her touches come from groundballs, and while she could be cleaner, gets to a lot of contest thanks to her determination and competitiveness.
As a whole, Creaton's strengths stand out on the field, and her transitional game combined with her overall athleticism and competitive nature are why she earned a State Draft Combine invite. There are improvements to come and upside to fulfil, but the Eastern Ranges defender can be happy with her rate of development in 2025.
DRAFT RANGE: Late
SUMMARY:
Isabelle Creaton has put her name in the AFLW Draft frame following a really solid 2025 campaign. She provide plenty of run and carry out of the back half, and can play a key team role be it offensively or defensively. While not a massive ball-winner with some improvements to make in her efficiency, Creaton has a nice foundational base that has put her in a position to be considered for the AFLW Draft.
