While much hype has been placed on the Gold Coast Suns Academy this year, the Suns' cross-state rivals Brisbane Lions also have some developing draft prospects. While injury put a line through Jemma Foley's year, the rebounding half-back was touted as 'one to watch' by coach Emma Zielke, and rated incredibly highly internally by Queensland even without able to play a national carnival game.

Foley uses the ball well coming off half-back, be it both through handball receives or in mopping up, then generally makes good decisions with ball in hand. She did not get a lot of chances to show what she could do against the best of the best - having been limited to just the Coates Talent League Girls from a sub-elite junior perspective - but what she showed out of the back half was very good.

While interruptions have meant Foley still needs to develop her tank and become more prolific overhead, she is a player teammates love getting the ball in the hands of, and was regarded by some at Queensland as "one of the most knowledgable" footballers in terms of her footy IQ. She reads the game exceptionally well, and with some luck and continuity has the potential to go to the elite level. One to watch next year if the Lions - or another club - don't pounce off the limited exposed form.
