PROFILE:

Kaiya Hides can catch the eye when up and about, with the Queensland AFLW Draft prospect overcoming missing out on her bottom-age national campaign to play a couple of games for the Maroons in 2024. Following a consistent few games for the Lions Academy at Coates Talent League level - averaging 12 disposals and four tackles - she earned her chance for Queensland.

Not disappointing in the maroon, Hides averaged 15.5 disposals, 3.0 marks and 3.0 inside 50s, catching the eye against Vic Country and particularly the Allies where she had 19 disposals and four inside 50s. Her clean hands at ground level coupled with her work rate to win multiple possessions in a chain really stands out.

While Hides does need to improve elements such as her inside game and kicking under pressure, her outside game is what suits her athletic style. The Maroochydore talent won 68.8 per cent of her possessions at the national championships in an uncontested fashion, showing her work rate to get to the outside and cover plenty of ground.
