PROFILE:

Considering her short time period at the sub-elite level for Aussie rules, Lavinia Cox made plenty of strides in 2024. The Bendigo Pioneers midfielder started off slowly as she got used to the speed of the game, but by the end of the year had represented Vic Country and was finding the ball more consistently both inside and outside the contest.

Her game is underpinned by her elite athleticism both in the air and running across the ground. Her agility is ridiculous, but her speed and endurance is also very good, which enables her to impact games for longer than most. Her kicking efficiency and fundamentals are still developing, but it was clear she has been working hard on them, having produced a number of difficult kicks across her body, and transitioned contest-to-contest more consistently in the back end of the year.

Aside from her athletic traits, Cox is composed with ball in hand, and like most basketballers, Cox "slows time" and is able to buy herself additional seconds to dispose of the pill. As a whole, those traits along with her defensive mindset adds up to a long-term prospect who has some great potential as a dual-code athlete.
