Lilly Leighton was one of a number of surprise packets in 2024, having shown signs in the past of being a draftable prospect, but taking that next step in her top-age season. The Gippsland Power midfielder - who has the capacity to play a high half-forward role - boast some outstanding athletic traits to complement her strong contested appetite.

While Leighton did not make the Vic Country squad, she kept working hard at Coates Talent League Girls level, playing 14 games for the Power and finishing the year with a high contested ball-winning ability. Others might have a higher production rate, but Leighton won 54.9 per cent of her touches in a contest, and the same number of possessions off the ground, truly emphasising her first possession-winning ability.

That inside game along with her athletic traits and defensive pressure highlight a well-balanced profile, with her production and kicking precision areas to further develop. Still, Leighton has shown herself to be a capable half-forward if required, with the future scope to be a powerful and quick inside midfielder.
