PROFILE:

Molly Paterson is part of a star-studded Eastern Ranges lineup that is not short on talent through the middle. The Ranges' leader offers consistent work rate and versatility whether she is playing inside, outside or as she did for Vic Metro and at times for Eastern, coming off half-back.

Paterson's defensive elements and quick hands in close define her game, though she has some terrific agility and a nice turn of pace out of the stoppage to add a point of difference there. She is clean off the deck, often winning it and shovelling it out to teammates, but can also cruise out of congestion and head forward to put the opposition on the back foot.

That offensive movement is an element Paterson can continue to develop, with her defensive impact the greater of the two. She is a player who does not really do much wrong, but can lift her hurt factor particularly in the front half of the ground. Likewise with her composure under pressure, but given time and space she can be effective by hand or foot, and her consistency throughout the season was very good.
