Leagues: SANFL Reserves, SANFL Under 18s
A pint-sized inside midfielder from Sturt, Spain is a consistent ball winner who was often responsible for quick handballs out of congestion at state league level. He earned his chance for South Australia's Under 19 side, and showed he is able to contribute for four quarters credit to his work rate. With elite-level defensive pressure, Spain will stop at nothing to impress and help his side not only get on the front foot, but also win the ball back.
Across his season with the Reserves, Spain defied his 178cm, 69kg size and frame to really impact the contest on the inside. He won plenty of contested ball, cracked in at the clearances, and laid numerous amounts of tackles to suggest he is not afraid to mix it with senior, bigger bodies. He had a season-high 28 disposals at the level, also taking four marks, laying nine tackles, having five clearances and three inside 50s in a tight win over South Adelaide. Whilst his last three games were much quieter, his defensive pressure never wavered.
