Triumphant Tryon leans on experience to gain success
THE Sydney Sixers can thank Chloe Tryon for ensuring they were the ones on the winning side of the equation at Jubilee Park yesterday. Her steady bowling ensured wicket after wicket fell in the crucial final over to hand the Sixers a four-run victory over the Melbourne Stars.
Tryon said that there was a clear plan heading into the final over.
“Pez (Ellyse Perry) spoke to me just before the over [and said] just be ready,” Tryon said.
“Obviously we knew we didn’t have many runs on the board to defend so just try and keep it tight and play with the pace a bit. Try and keep calm, don’t overthink it too much, and just try and keep it nice and simple.”
She also said that her long career full of plenty experience helped her stay calm in that crucial over.
“I’ve been playing for quite a while now, so I tend to not overthink it too much because you need to stay calm in those situations otherwise everything goes pear shaped,” Tryon said. “We spoke about a lot of plans and different fields, but like I said I kept it nice and simple and the rest took care of itself.”
To help get the game back underway after the rain delay, the whole Sixers team helped take the covers off, and Tryon said that was thanks to the whole team’s keenness to get back out there.
“I think we were all keen to get out there,” she said. “We spoke before the game and I just kept telling everyone to keep showing up regardless of how everything goes and I’m happy we stepped up today. We got a couple of wickets early, and obviously we can’t control the weather, but we were just eager to get back out there and get the game [underway] and I’m happy we got the win.”
Tryon is about halfway through her first season as a Sixer, and she said she is really loving her time in pink so far.
“Yeah it’s been good, good group of girls, learning a lot as well,” she said. “It’s nice to work with Lotte again, but yeah, lot of talent in the group and I’m just happy that every game we’re still trying to step up regardless of how the result has been so far. Got a couple of wins so far, so good momentum heading into the game on Friday.”
