Perth Scorchers the Heat to record another win
PERTH Scorchers have picked up their second victory of the WBBL10 season after a big win over the Brisbane Heat. Perth made 8/142 from its 20 overs, before bowling the Heat out for just 114.
The competitive tally that the Scorchers were able to put together was off the back of a 40-run opening partnership that was going at a decent pace of about eight runs an over.
Although no other partnerships were able to match that level, there were enough big enough partnerships that the Scorchers were able to make a competitive score.
The Heat could not even blame poor bowling – conceding only five extras – but the Scorchers did hit 17 boundaries.
Most of the Scorchers’ runs came from Beth Mooney, who smashed nine fours on her way to 77 from just 52 balls. Without her runs though the Scorchers would have been in a lot of trouble as the next best innings was just 25.
On the other side of the equation, Nicola Hancock picked up three wickets for the Heat, while Nadine de Klerk picked up two wickets.
In reply, the Heat lost their first wicket much sooner than the Scorchers did, and it was a sign of things to come. Although there was ultimately the same amount of partnerships that were single digit and double digit, the double digit partnerships were much smaller than Perth’s, with most of the partnerships being in the teams.
This all culminated in the Heat losing their last two wickets for a single run in a particularly destructive Alana King over. Speaking of King, that final over gave her three of the five wickets she ultimately nabbed, while Ebony Hoskin took two wickets.
Meanwhile for the Heat Laura Harris was the only batter to really get a start, going on to make 40, as no one else made a score higher than 14.
