Jamaica announces Sunshine Series squad

JAMAICA’S squad for next month’s Margaret Beckford Sunshine Series against South Africa was released today with 15 players named for the competition. While the Jamaicans will be minus star shooter Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard after she recently announced her pregnancy, there is still plenty of quality on the list.

Among those players set to step up in her absence are the duo of Shanice Beckford and Shimona Jok, both of whom have stood up at Super Netball level this year, Jok for a number of years for both Adelaide and previously Collingwood.

Captaining the side in Fowler-Nembhard’s absence is world class defender Shamera Sterling-Humphrey, who will likely pair with familiar face Latanya Wilson, as they have for the title-winning Adelaide Thunderbirds. Fellow Super Netball defender Jodi-Ann Ward will also find a place in there, with Adean Thomas a crucial cog in the midcourt.

Sasher-Gaye Henry will coach the squad which will take on the SPAR Proteas on January 18, 22 and 25 in a best-of-three series at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston, Jamaica.
