PREVIEW | 2024 Suncorp Super Netball
AFTER an action packed off season, Suncorp Super Netball is back this weekend.
Thanks to one of the most chaotic re-signing periods in recent memory, this SSN season is less predictable than ever before.
Although some sides have been more affected than others, no team’s list is 100% the same as their 2023 squad.
With so many new combinations set to take the court, it is very difficult to predict who will star this season.
The Team Girls Cup results may suggest it will be the year of the Swifts, but recent history has shown that the Team Girls Cup result does not always correspond to the SSN final result.
This season will also see some history made, with the Melbourne Mavericks coming into the competition in place of the now defunct Collingwood Magpies.
Although there is plenty of excitement around the new side coming in, there are still plenty of questions hanging over them too. Their inaugural preseason was a bit of a disaster on the injury front, losing a key pillar from either end of the court. They have had to confirm replacements so late in the preseason so it remains to be seen what affect that might have on their season.
The other big question ahead of the new season is the introduction of the 11th player provision. There has been much talk about squad sizes in the SSN, so how will teams utilise this provision and who will do it best? Also adding to the intrigue is that some clubs appear to not be taking up the provision, so time will tell what kind of affect each club’s respective decision has.
