GERMANY will be looking to go another step better than its semi-finals appearances in both the 2021 ATP Cup and Davis Cup when they compete in the 2022 ATP Cup. The European nation will be once again at full strength and with a strong singles and doubles combination, there is every chance Germany goes deep in this tournament too.

Germany were without world number three Zverev in the recent Davis Cup, and still punched above its weight. With Struff no doubt thrilled to head back to the second singles spot, it means the Germans have enough depth to worry opposing nations. They have copped a tough group, and have gone for the simple three-singles, two-doubles format in the five-player team, lucky enough to have a specialist doubles combination. In theory Germany would be favourites to win Zverev’s singles and the doubles more often than not, which puts them in a great position.
Landing in Group C, Germany does not have it easy. Last year’s semi-finalists take on Canada, Great Britain and the United States, all of whom possess two Top 30 players. Struff is actually the lowest second singles player in the group, but has the serve to keep himself in a lot of matches. Zverev is the standout first singles player, with Felix Auger-Aliassime his biggest threat. Likewise, Canada is the biggest overall worry for Germany with fellow Top 20 player Denis Shapovalov very good for a second singles opponent.
The German doubles pairing of Krawietz and Puetz will beat far more opponents than they will lose to, and it is predicted they will survive the group stage thanks to them, and advance to the semi-finals. There, it gets a lot tougher, coming up against a likely Russian outfit with even higher ranked players, or an Italian combination that is always dangerous. That gets substantially harder, but if Zverev can win his singles, then the Germans are always a chance with the doubles combination they have at their disposal.
