2022 ATP Cup Great Britain preview

GREAT Britain heads into the 2022 ATP Cup off the back of a strong showing at the 2021 Davis Cup. The Brits were able to make it through to the quarter finals before going down to Germany in a tough 2-1 loss. Entering the ATP Cup, Great Britain has brought five players in, with only Neal Skupski going out, providing the European nation with some depth at the event.

2022 GREAT BRITAIN TEAM

Cameron Norrie
Daniel Evans
Liam Broady
Joe Salisbury
Jamie Murray

Off the back of career-best seasons, both Norrie and Evans arrive as danger players for Great Britain. They are cpable of causing more upsets than in previous years, with Norrie particularly dangerous. Evans is solid and reliable, but complements the 26-year-old South African-born Norrie well, whilst Broady offers a different perspective. Though ranked outside the Top 100, the unlucky Broady finally strung some consistent form together at ITF level, and rose to as high as 121st in early November, before settling at 128th in the world.

At 27-years-old, Broady might have less career in front of him than behind, but he started his professional career late, and it would be a fantastic experience to get a chance to prove himself in Sydney. Meanwhile world number three doubles player Salisbury returns and will lead up the final match of each tie, this time teaming up with world number 19, Murray who adds something different to Skupski. The former world number one doubles player has plenty of talent, and it makes Great Britain a huge threat.

Despite their success this year, Great Britain has copped a tough group against Germany and Canada, and could end up finishing as low as third overall. They would be tipped to beat the United States given they have no Top 20 players, but Germany welcome back Alexander Zverev, and Canada have both Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov, which is a fierce one-two punch after the pair missed the Davis Cup. It is anticipated that Great Britain will put up a fight, and could just as easily top the group as finish third, but if they do win it, they will have earned their place in the next stage.

Prediction: 3rd in Group C
