IT took until the final game to decide the AFL Draft Central TAC Cup Player of the Week for Round 8, but after an impressive game at full-forward from overager Matthew Day turned heads and secured the title for the week.

Day booted a massive seven goals – equal to that of the entire Murray Bushrangers team – and had 19 disposals, six marks (two contested), two tackles, two inside 50s and of course, 7.1. After missing out on being drafted last year, the versatile Day has played primarily forward after mixing between midfield and forward last season.

In his two TAC Cup seasons, the weekend’s performance was clearly his best thus far and he will no doubt be keen to continue that form going forward. Day becomes the first Oakleigh player to win Player of the Week this season and the sixth Metro player. With the forwards bagging plenty of goals with four of the eight nominations slotting six goals or more Day made for a good choice.
