QUARTER-BY-QUARTER:

First Quarter

Shineah Goody started off the game like a house on fire playing through the midfield and setting up a goal to Hannah Ewings with a pinpoint kick inside 50. The AFLW Academy member went on to amass 11 disposals in the first term and take four marks in what was simply a huge start. Showcasing her elite level running and footy marts to get to the right areas, the Eagles product already looked like having a huge day, talking almost half of her side’s marks, and having 20 per cent of the opposition’s total disposals. Her ability to move the ball in transition was clear from the onset.

Second Quarter

The second quarter was Goody’s quietest, but by no means did the talented bottom-ager not have an impact. She still worked hard, but was under more pressure in contested situations, having five disposals, of which four were handballs. She also laid a tackle and had another clearance, but she just did not have as much time and space as she did in the first term. By half-time, Goody headed into the main break with 16 disposals, four marks, three tackles, and three clearances.

Third Quarter

The third term is where she had the most impact on the scoreboard, kicking a fantastic goal midway through the term. Despite being under pressure and pushed as she kicked it, Goody put one through the middle for the fourth goal of the third term for the Croweaters. Combining well with Ewings in the forward half, Goody had another shot on goal but missed, with her total 1.1 coming from that purple patch in the third term. Having another double-digit term, Goody had 10 disposals, four marks, three tackles, a clearance and an inside 50 to go with her 1.1.

Fourth Quarter

Goody capped off her performance with another big term in the final quarter as the South Australians ran away with the game booting 4.4 to 0.1. The hard-running bottom-ager recorded eight disposals, took two marks, laid three tackles and had another inside 50s to finish with a total of 34 disposals, 10 marks, nine tackles, four clearances, two inside 50s and a goal. Impressively, Goody also drew five free kicks throughout the game in what was a starring role across the ground.

Closing Thoughts…

Shineah Goody is an exciting prospect for next year, who will form the nucleus for a midfield with Piper Window and the returning Lauren Young in 2023. The South Australian was a dominant player across the match, and found the ball at will, showcasing all of her traits. She is a fantastic user by hand or foot, and is one of the best exponents of the long handball – coupled with her vision – going around. Though often a midfielder who covers the ground well getting back on the last line, Goody was able to do more forward running with the Croweaters’ dominance, and it showed with her ability to set up scoring opportunities and even kick a goal herself.
