WAFLW Team of the Week: Round 15

TOP two sides East Fremantle and Claremont lead all-comers when it comes to Rookie Me Central West Australian Football League (WAFL) Women’s Team of the Week representatives for Round 15. Both sides have five players in the side this week, one more ahead of Swan Districts and Subiaco who both had four. Peel Thunder and South Fremantle who both sustained losses to those top two sides, have the three representatives each.

Top of the table East Fremantle picked up five representatives in our Round 15 Team of the Week, with regular midfielder Sharon Wong onball and midfielder/forward Ashlee Atkins at half-forward. The damaging duo of Julia Teakle and Mylee Leitch combined for five goals and are on the deepest line, with winger Zippy Fish also named in the team.

Claremont had this week’s vice-captain in Sasha Goranova who was named in the centre, while Mikayla Western slotted onto a wing. She and her Tigers captain Ella Smith (half-forward) both slotted multiple goals, with exciting forward Ella Slocombe, and AFLW-experienced Jasmin Stewart also in the 24-player squad. Lockdown defender Paige Hamilton-Smith was named an emergency for her lockdown job on Kate Bartlett.

Swan Districts had four representatives in the team with defenders Emily McGuire and Isabella Edgley both proving to be rebounding machines. In the midfield, Jaime Henry was named onball, with Abbygail Bushby on the bench. Fellow midfielder Ruby Mahony was another emergency in the Team of the Week.

Subiaco had a couple of defenders slot into the back six, in key defender Jamie Rust and running defender Madison Dodd. Ruck Tess Lyons slotted into the number one role, while midfielder Jayme Harken made the side yet again, earning a place on the bench.

Peel Thunder might have only had the three representatives this week, but did contribute the Round 15 captain, with young gun Ella Roberts named at centre half-forward after a 30-plus disposal performance in the loss to Claremont. Alongside Roberts in the team are a couple of Thunder defenders in Cassie Davidson and Tanisha Anderson. Running Greta McKinley also caught the eye, and only just missed out, named as an emergency for Round 15.

South Fremantle also recorded a trio of representatives to complete the squad. Defender Casey Byrne was named on the last line, while captain Lauren Vecchio and the versatile Zoe Wakfer were both named on the bench this week.
