AFLW Season 7 Player Focus: Kirsty Lamb (WB)

DESPITE her reliability and consistency week in and week out, Bulldog Kirsty Lamb often does not get mentioned when her side gets discussed in the media.

On the weekend against Port Adelaide, Lamb had another stellar game, and this Player Focus is going to hone in on that performance.

FIRST HALF

Lamb started the game in at the centre bounce, but in perhaps a sign of how much the Power underestimate her, they decided to double team Ellie Blackburn and did not have anyone directly marking Lamb.

This ensured Lamb was able to work around and win the first clearance of the game for her team.

She also managed to get on the scoreboard, kicking a behind.

Lamb is the kind of player who more often stays on the outside of packs, but is not afraid to get in and under in a pack. This allows her to create a lot of run for her team.

The only minor issue with her first quarter performance was a risky switch kick into the middle, but it sort of paid off because the Power did not intercept it well enough to be able to run off and rebound from it.

At the opening bounce of the second term though, it was Lamb who copped the double team treatment this time around, but she was still able to win the ball first from the ruck tap, which she then handballed out to Blackburn to set up the first inside 50 of the quarter.

She was also first to the ball from the tap at the next centre bounce, but did not get free to set up an attack for her team because she ran into an Erin Phillips tackle.

Her disposal count may not have been as high in that quarter, but she applied a lot of defensive pressure during the quarter.

She was also one of the first to go comfort team mate Britney Gutknecht after she went down with a horrific injury.

SECOND HALF

The second half saw saw a continuation of all that we have come to expect from Lamb.

She continued to do some great work in the centre clearances, and she continued to create good run through the middle of the ground.

She also continued to create a great partnership with Blackburn, as the pair ran hard through the middle.

Her only blemish for the half was a holding the ball free kick against her.
