TOP 5s | 2024 WAFLW Preseason Testing
CLAREMONT teenager Ella Gilbey and Swan Districts top-ager Indiana West were among the best performers at the WAFL Women’s Preseason Testing day, recording multiple top five finishes. Alongside leading draft prospect Zippy Fish – who topped the agility and finished sixth in the jumps and 20m sprint – the pair impressed at Curtin University on Saturday.
Gilbey shared the running vertical jump spoils with East Perth’s Makayla Rogers for a leap of 66cm, while also managing 53cm off the standing start, ranking fourth. Gilbey clocked up a time of 8.483 seconds in the agility test behind Fish and South Fremantle’s Ella Matthews.
West was second in both the standing vertical jump (56cm) and 20m sprint (3.195 seconds), being one of just three players to clock sub-3.2 seconds on the latter. East Fremantle duo Ruby Redman and Alicia Blizard were the other two on the podium. West also shared third in the running jump with a score of 64cm.
In the yo-yo test, Claremont bottom-ager Juliet Kelly lasted longer than anyone else with a score of 17.02, while teammate and reigning league best and fairest winner Jayme Harken recorded a 17.01. East Perth pair Lucy Greenwood and Jess Verbrugge, and West Perth’s Megan Norbury rounded out the top five.
