2024 WAFLW Team of the Week: Round 4

ONE thriller and a couple of blowouts headlined Round 4 of the WAFL Women’s competition with the four winners all sharing the equal spoils of a league-high four players in our Rookie Me Central WAFLW Team of the Week.

This week’s captain is West Perth winger Taylor Ferguson who booted a couple of goals from 24 touches and clunked 10 marks in a huge effort working all over the ground. She teamed up well with Megan Kauffman who also made the Team of the Week again, as did Falcons duo, Bianca Webb and Jeevna Heer.

Ferguson’s deputy for Round 4 is East Fremantle young gun Zippy Fish who racked up 27 disposals and provided high level run and carry. Once again Fish finds herself starting in the team, while fellow Sharks captain Ashleigh Gomes, top-age defender Natasha Entwistle and match-winner Chloe Reilly also found their way into the 24-player squad.

Subiaco had a commanding win over Peel Thunder and produced a quartet of players, with utility Maggie MacLachlan named at centre half-back headlining the group at half-back. Fellow AFLW-experienced talent Krstel Petrevski was named inside 50, while Lions duo Tess Lyons and Leila Rowe also made the side.

The other Round 4 winner was Claremont who fought past a dogged East Perth outfit. Forward/midfielder Anjelique Raison slotted a round-high three goals in the win, while ruck Jessica Ritchie earned a starting position. Taylah Orzel was terrific in midfield, while Claudia Wright provided much needed run off half-back.

Of the losing sides, Swan Districts picked up three representatives in the Team of the Week after getting within a point of East Fremantle. The composure of Eliza Gelmi and Lily Paterson in the back half of the ground earned them spots in the team, while midfielder Carys D’Addario also slotted on-ball.

Peel Thunder young guns Evie Cowcher and Jorja Haines also made the team after stepping up in big moments, while South Fremantle’s Poppy Stockwell made the side once again, this time along with Caitlin Pears.

East Perth’s Sabella Banks was the sole Royal in the team to round out the 24-strong squad, while teammate and defender Taylah Suda was one of three emergencies this week. The other two emergencies were Swan Districts’ Kayley King and South Fremantle’s Tahleah Mulder
