Seven players tied for final RMC Medal podium place

THE ROOKIE Me Central Medal count is beginning to take shape after three rounds of Coates Talent League action. There are currently seven players tied for the final podium place, behind breakaway leader Damon Hollow and recent National Academy inductee Tobie Travaglia.

Hollow was awarded his second set of three votes this season for an outstanding performance in Calder’s 30-point win over Northern. The midfielder racked up a season-high 27 disposals, seven marks and 14 inside 50s to lead his side to victory and take his votes tally to eight.

Travaglia got on the board once again with a two votes in Bendigo’s 24-point defeat of Gippsland. His 22 disposals, six marks and five inside 50s between defence and midfield helped the Pioneers pick up a third consecutive win, while also elevating him to an AFL Academy call-up.

There is some serious class among the trailing pack, including top five prospect Christian Moraes. Of the seven players tied for third place, he is the only one to have polled in all three rounds, adding to his tally on Saturday with a single vote in Eastern’s 19-point loss to Sandringham.

Dragons captain Levi Ashcroft picked up three votes in that game after leading all comers with 31 touches. Nearly as prolific as him was imminent National and Vic Metro teammate Jagga Smith (28 disposals), who was best afield as Oakleigh downed Tasmania by nine points.

Also in the top 10 currently is our Round 3 Player of the Week, Will McLachlan. His scintillating start to the season – 13 goals in three games – sees him sit atop the goalkicking charts, and has attracted mid-season draft interest. The over-ager bagged a league-high six goals on Sunday.
