Hynes climbs up RMC Medal leaderboard
DANDENONG Stingrays co-captain Cooper Hynes continues his ascent up the Rookie Me Central Medal leaderboard after another massive outing in Round 8. The 190cm midfielder-forward sits behind a trio of leaders on nine votes after adding two to his tally in Dandenong’s draw with the Lions Academy.

Hynes was instrumental in the opening half and finished with 27 disposals, nine inside 50s, and four goals but was still beaten to best afield honours by Harvey Langford. The latter led all comers with 33 touches, nine inside 50s and a goal to help bring his side back to parity in a massive final quarter.
Player of the Week and mid-season draft fancy Geordie Payne earned three votes for his 29 disposals, nine inside 50s and four goals in Tasmania’s win over Eastern Ranges. The Devils were awarded a full allotment this week, with ruck Jasper Hay and defender Max Roney also polling.
Calder’s Isaac Kako was a lock for best on ground recognition after snaring three goals from 29 touches and 12 inside 50s. Similar can be said for Sandringham Dragons spearhead Sam Buck, who booted five majors in a loss to the Sydney Swans Academy – Sandringham’s first of the season.
In a scrappy game played in wind and rain at Mars Stadium, votes were difficult to distribute but Western bottom-ager Thomas McGuane (31 disposals) got the nod for his production levels. Defender Lachlan McArthur was not far behind, while Oliver Hannaford was GWV’s best in a losing effort.
This year’s count remains tight at the top ahead of the Under 18 National Championships. Vic Metro stars Josh Smillie, Jagga Smith, and Zak Johnson remain tied for first place on 10 votes each, with Smillie the only one of the trio to have turned out in Round 8.
