PREVIEW | VFLW Round 13 – Saturday
THERE are four matches in the VFLW today that could all be very telling on how the season plays out and ultimately who will make finals.
MATCH OF THE DAY
North Melbourne vs Box Hill
2pm
Arden St Oval
HEAD TO HEAD
Today’s match will be the sixth time these two sides have ever met. The head-to-head ledger sits very much in the visitors favour though, having won the last four meetings in a row, including the only time these sides have met at Arden St Oval.
LAST TIME THEY MET
Last time these sides met was back in Round 5, and that day saw the Hawks comfortably win by 50 points. Although the match was tight in the first quarter, the Hawks really kicked away in the second term and never looked back.
KEY MATCH UP
It is difficult to deny that one of Box Hill’s biggest assets up forward is Luke. The former AFLW star is an absolute rock up forward for the Hawks and provides them with such a valuable key marking target.
The problem for the Kangaroos is that not many of their defenders have both the size and the strength to match it with someone like Luke, but they do in their skipper Jones.
There is only three centimetres between the pair height wise, but Jones is still going to have to be really strong in the air, more so than she arguably has been all season, in order to try and keep Luke’s influence to a minimum.
RAMIFICATIONS
This is an all top four clash, and with the ladder as tight as it is, every possible win is absolutely crucial.
If North win, its place in the finals is booked. If the Roos lose and results go their way, there is still the potential for them to book their finals berth.
For the Hawks, finals is already secured but a win today will go a long way to securing a crucial top two spot and a double chance.
