A SUPER Saturday takes place in the WAFL Women’s with all four Round 5 games taking place on the same day. We preview each of them with some sides desperate to grab win number two in 2025.
- Team
East Perth
East Fremantle
FORM
East Perth got on the board in season 2025 with a victory over Perth, while East Fremantle has had a tough start to the season with the reigning grand finalists now 1-3 but having played the top three teams in the competition.
TEAMS

CHANGES
Both sides have a couple of young guns returning from the National Academy and All Stars match. East Perth welcomes back Lucy Greenwood to provide a spark, while up the other end, Alicia Blizard will be a handful for the Royals defence. Also coming in for the Sharks are experience midfielder Amber Kinnane and young forward Grace Freeman, though East Fremantle is without Chloe Reilly and Ashlee Atkins. East Perth has brought in Tara Maciupa among the ins with Kahra Sprylan and Jorja Elisseou both out.
AFLW DRAFT TALENT
Greenwood and Blizard headline the young talent in the squads, though Maya Louvel-Finn is enjoying a ripping season for the Sharks. Expect her to have another big job in defence, with the other two lookign to hit the scoreboard for their respective sides.
PREDICTION
East Fremantle should make it two wins for the year thus far with the extra experience the Sharks have on the Royals, with wins likely to come a little more freely now against the lower ranked sides.
- Team
Swan Districts
West Perth
FORM
West Perth is coming off a bye last round having beaten Perth the week before, and the Falcons will hope to even the season ledger in this one. Swan Districts bounced back from a defeat to Subiaco with a triumph over Peel Thunder to move to 2-1 in the season and grab fourth ahead of four sides on one win.
TEAMS

CHANGES
Swan Districts has only made one change to the side that beat Peel last week with Sienna Gerardi returning from her All Stars duties for Summer Yarran. West Perth has opted for the three changes with co-captain Emily Bennett a crucial in, alongside Sophie Fisher and Amy Fortescue. Sara Riou is out alongside Tazma Hutson and Mia Robis who were both omitted.
AFLW DRAFT TALENT
The midfield battle between Mia Russo – coming off a best on ground performance against Perth – and Carys D’Addario – coming off a starring performance against Peel – is one to watch. Lexi Strachan and Cara Dziegielewski form key parts of the midfield group, while Samara Sallie will lineup again in defence and possible cross paths with the returning Gerardi. Ava Stewart is the other State Academy member, named up forward for the Swans.
PREDICTION
Swan Districts have looked the better side this season, though West Perth have some big inclusions. The homeground advantage and therefore tip goes the way of the Swans, especially with the experience edge in the midfield, but it should be a close game.
- Team
Peel Thunder
Claremont
FORM
Peel Thunder has produced one of the most honourable 1-3 seasons on record with genuine claims in each of the Thunder’s matches. At the end of the day they do only have the one win but can be proud of how close they have come each time. Claremont is a tough proposition with the reigning premier unbeaten from three matches.
TEAMS

CHANGES
Both teams have wheeled out some changes with top-age star Evie Cowcher returning for the Thunder alongside experienced tackling machine Krystal Carter. However the home side will be minus defender Cassie Davidson. Claremont brings back sisters Mackenzie and Georgia Webb, as well as Laura Cinanni, while being minus Megan Green.
AFLW DRAFT TALENT
Cowcher is the pick of the top-agers, though Under 16s All-Australian Charlie Fletcher and Tiama Collard are super talented, while Heidi Ireland is coming off a couple of big games in defence. Claremont forward Ella Gilbey is in career-best form, while reliable midfielder-defender Juliet Kelly continues to perform strongly.
PREDICTION
It looks like another case of not quite having enough experience to get the job done for Peel Thunder with Claremont having the class and experience edge. Expect it to be close for the majority of the match before the Tigers pull away.
- Team
Subiaco
South Fremantle
FORM
A red-hot battle between two sides who look destined for finals action, South Fremantle suffered its first loss of the season against Claremont last round, while Subiaco sits at 4-0 and on top of the ladder.
TEAMS

CHANGES
Subiaco has opted for an extended squad with top-age star Olivia Crane a huge inclusion for her first game since doing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in preseason last year. She and fellow National Academy member Olivia Wolmarans further strength the side, with ex-AFLW forward Aimee Schmidt another key in. For the Bulldogs, they lose Poppy Stockwell who was drafted by Fremantle, alongside Tahleah Mulder and Marie Polimeno, but regain Fremantle-listed Holly Ifould, young midfielder Renee Morgan and marking forward Zoe Huggett.
AFLW DRAFT TALENT
There is no shortage of draft talent in this one with Crane, Wolmarans and Morgan all fantastic prospects for their respective sides. Crane has been named on the half-back flank opposite fellow State Academy member Sunni-Quay Peters, while Layla Quinn-Schofield is a dangerous prospect up forward.
PREDICTION
Subiaco is the unbeaten side, still has Dana Hooker among a stack of AFLW-listed talented and is at home. The tip has to go to the Lions, though the Bulldogs have plenty of quality players themselves in this one.
