PREVIEW | 2025 WAFLW – Round 11: Friday

ANOTHER Friday night battle takes place out west as the WAFL Women’s sides lose their State Academy members for the the Sandgropers’ trial match with Claremont. Kicking off the round is a battle between unbeaten Subiaco and last year’s grand finalists East Fremantle who is trying to find its form to reach another finals series.

FORM

Subiaco is firing on all cylinders at the moment, remaining undefeated from 10 rounds with just a draw against Claremont stopping the Lions from nine straight wins. They now face an East Fremantle side that is climbing back up the ladder and is now just a win and percentage outside the top four.

TEAMS

CHANGES

The two teams have taken very different approaches to the game from a team selection perspective with East Fremantle only making one change – and it’s forced – through losing Maya Louvel-Finn to the State Academy duties. Ava Anderson slots straight into her half-back role. For Subiaco, there are five confirmed changes with State Academy pair Layla Quinn-Schofield and Sunni-Quay Peters among the outs, with the likes of Aimee Schmidt, Danika Pisconeri and Leila Rowe all coming in.

AFLW DRAFT TALENT

Without the State Academy members in, the draft-related viewing turns to mature-age prospects with Eva Popovsky and Hayley Corlett a couple from Subi as a pressure forward/mid and wing respectively, while for East Fremantle, Chloe Reilly has always been around the mark as that dangerous forward, while Noa McNaughton and Madison Evans are having terrific seasons.

PREDICTION

It is impossible to go past Subiaco for the clash given the Lions are unbeaten, but East Fremantle is on the rise so it will be fascinating to see how the Sharks stack up.
