AN ULTRA impressive bounce back win from Swan Districts saw half a dozen players make our Round 11 WAFL Women’s Team of the Week, two more than next nearest Subiaco and Perth. Each side had a representative with six teams boasting multiple players.
Captaining the side is hard-running Perth wing Jasmine Single who had a big game against South Fremantle, racking up 29 disposals, three marks and six tackles, while Subiaco onballer Paige Sheppard (31 disposals, four marks, five tackles and seven inside 50s) was named her deputy.
Single had three other Demons in the side with her, as three-goal hero Taya Strickland was named up forward, as was co-captain Isabella Shannon and fierce midfielder/forward Jorja Haines. Sheppard was among four Lions as well, with one across each other line. Defender Beatrice Devlyn, wing Hayley Corlett and forward Aimee Schmidt were the fellow Subiaco players in the Round 11 side.
Swan Districts was by far the most prevalent team however, boasting six representatives including five on the field. Lead by skipper Eliza Gelmi, the Swans also had Taylah Edwards (three goals) and Kayley King (two goals) up forward. Ruck Lauren Quaife and midfielder Jaime Henry were the other starters, while Indiana West was named on the bench. Sophie Fisher is the sole Falcons’ representative from the clash and can play across all three lines.
Peel Thunder broke through for another win and recorded three players in the side. Defenders Ebony Dowson and Giaan Evans lineup across half-back, while Ebony Bilcich is on the interchange. They beat East Perth whose sole representative is Elly Sara, while South Fremantle had two in midfielder Tahleah Mulder and talented athlete Annalie Polimeno.
Despite going down to Subiaco, East Fremantle still managed three players in the side, the most of any losing side. The Sharks had bookends Leanne Gubbins and Sarah Wielstra as well as intercepting defender Madison Evans. Midfielder Amber Kinnane was one of three emergencies for Round 11 alongside East Perth’s Layla Firns and Peel Thunder’s Chloe Wrigley.
