2025 SANFLW Team of the Week: Round 13

SOUTH Adelaide rose to the top of the SANFL Women’s table and produced a league-high five representatives in our Round 13 Team of the Week, two more than any other side. In an otherwise even spread across the seven remaining teams, five recorded three players in the squad, while Woodville-West Torrens and North Adelaide had two apiece.

Captaining the side this week was actually Norwood midfielder and former Port and Blue utility Jade Halfpenny after 28 disposals, two marks, seven tackles, nine clearances and three inside 50s in a tough loss to Glenelg. In the same game, Kaitey Whittaker‘s four majors got her Bays team over the line for their second consecutive win and earned her the vice-captaincy.

However South Adelaide had more representatives than any other side with five including two in the back 50 being Tiffany King (14 disposals, four marks and four rebound 50s) and Jaslynne Smith (18 disposals, four marks and four rebound 50s). Though it was a lot less clear cut given the performances of no less than four rucks across the weekend, perennial first choice ruck Soriah Moon started once more and ha 15 disposals, 42 hitouts, four clearances and four inside 50s.

The other two Panthers to make it were Lauren Clifton and Melissa Anderson who have both enjoyed similar positional changes from half-forward to wing and then inside in the absence of other teammates, combining for 43 disposals, seven marks, 17 tackles, 13 clearances and 10 inside 50s. The team they beat in North Adelaide had two representatives being intercepting defender Jamie Parish and fellow rebounder, Ella Metcalfe.

Sturt kept its grip on fourth spot with defender Hannah Prenzler (13 disposals, two marks, two tackles and five rebound 50s) continuing her form, while young forward Lily Whiteman (17 disposals, two marks, three tackles, three clearances and two inside 50s) and ruck Jasmin Fejo (20 disposals, seven marks – one contested – 14 hitouts, four clearances and five inside 50s) also made the side.

They beat the Eagles who only had the two for Round 13 being Alice Tentye (22 disposals, three marks – one contested – 10 tackles, five clearances and six rebound 50s) who slotted in at half-back, and Olivia Evans (13 disposals, two marks, eight tackles and five clearances) who made the most of her touches around the ball.

Glenelg’s second consecutive win still yielded star onballer Jessica Bates a spot following 28 disposals, seven marks, seven tackles and seven clearances in her penultimate SANFLW game. She and defender Madelyn Zacher (17 disposals, four marks, four tackles and five rebound 50s) were the other Bays in the side with Whittaker.

Central District and West Adelaide both had three players earn spots in the Team of the Week after their virtual elimination final, with hard-running midfielder Dakota Williams (18 disposals, 10 tackles, nine clearances and four rebound 50s) shuffled to a wing given the depth of the onballers this week but still deserving a starting spot.

Katelyn Rosenzweig (12 disposals, three marks – one contested – three tackles, six hitouts, three inside 50s and two goals) and Madison Lane (15 disposals, four marks, nine tackles, six clearances, two inside 50s and five rebound 50s) were the other Dogs.

West Adelaide’s trio of representatives were Richmond AFLW-listed tall Shelby Knoll who kicked a goal from 10 touches and seven marks – two contested – up forward, and midfielders Hannah Button (27 disposals, four marks, nine tackles, seven clearances and three inside 50s) and Zoe Venning (25 disposals, three marks, 11 tackles and eight clearances).

Other than Halfpenny, second-game Redleg Lani Cocks had a big day out accumulating 28 touches, five tackles, five inside 50s, three rebound 50s and kicking a goal, while Kiana Lee slotted 2.3 from 16 disposals and seven marks – two contested – in the loss to Glenelg. Bays midfielder Asha Dufour was one of three emergencies alongside former teammate Emma Chapman (West Adelaide) and defender-turned-midfielder Esther Schirmer (South Adelaide).
