WITH the regular SANFL Women’s season done and dusted for 2025 and finals underway, we have named our annual Rookie Me Central SANFL Women’s Team of the Year squad. The full squad is based around our Team of the Weeks that are published following each round, with a minimum of four nominations to qualify automatically.
The criteria to be selected in our SANFL Women’s Team of the Year is that the players must have played seven games minimum (50 per cent) and not be on an AFL Women’s list. That being said, all AFL Women’s listed players in the SANFLW have played less than the seven matches anyway. The caveat does not include players such as Christina Leuzzi and Laela Ebert who started as SANFLW players before being listed by Adelaide and Melbourne AFLW clubs respectively.
Of the 48 players named in the squad, South Adelaide and North Adelaide boast the most representatives with eight apiece, just one clear of minor premiers and grand finalists, Woodville-West Torrens. West Adelaide (six) edged ahead of other finalist Sturt (five), who joined Central District and Norwood on the same number. Wooden spooners Glenelg had the least representatives, but still managed four.
Headlining the squad are the likes of retiring Glenelg star Jessica Bates and a stack of SANFLW State Team representatives such as ruck duo Soriah Moon and Leah Cutting. Competition leading goalkicker Katelyn Rosenzweig and runner-up Klaudia O’Neill are both in the squad, as are a number of State Academy members. These include National Academy representative Monique Bessen, and top-agers Lucy Waye and Imogen Trengove.
South Adelaide bottom-age trio Taya Maxwell, Emma Charlton and Layla Vizgaudis are all in the 48-strong squad, as is Rooster Polly Turner, Eagle Lucy Moore and Tiger Georgie Fielder.
The final Rookie Me Central Team of the Year featuring 24 players will be announced on Thursday, before the official SANFLW Team of the Year is revealed next Monday night.
