PREVIEW | 2025 WAFLW – Round 16

A SUPER Saturday of WAFL Women’s action sees all four matches take place tomorrow including a double-header at Sullivan Logistics Stadium. We take a look at how the teams are shaping up and who is looking good for that all important ‘W’.

  • Team
  • East Perth
  • Claremont

FORM

East Perth has found itself struggling of late and sits at the bottom of the ladder with just one win. The Royals look the most likely to take the wooden spoon unless they can smash Perth or pick up two wins for the remainder of the year. Claremont on the other hand has suffered back-to-back losses and will be keen to gain some confidence in the Round 16 clash.

TEAMS

CHANGES

Claremont has rested star midfielder Matilda Sergeant for the clash with Gabby Colvin coming in for the Tigers, while East Perth has made four changes to try and mix it up. They lose Sabella Banks and Lillian Ninyett, but have regained important experience in the form of Kate Inglis-Hodge, Hayley O’Donnell and Kahra Sprlyan, while Summer Mollross also comes into the lineup.

PREDICTION

Claremont should be far too strong in this one with copious amounts of experience and hungry after consecutive losses. Expect a big Tiger response to stave off the challengers below.

  • Team
  • Swan Districts
  • Peel Thunder

FORM

Like East Perth, Peel Thunder’s youth is struggling towards the finish line, going down to the Demons last week. They now travel to take on an impressive Swan Districts who fended off South Fremantle in Round 15 and are outright third just a win off the double chance.

TEAMS

CHANGES

Swan Districts enters the match with an extended bench, as Megan Carron is the only confirmed omission. Among the inclusions are Naomi Baker and Demi Liddle – so expect at least one more change – while Madison Fisher, Karri Parnham and Sienna Pollard are the others. For Peel Thunder, they have lost young guns Charlie Fletcher and Heidi Ireland as well as the experienced Cassie Davidson. Jade Hall, Tahlia Head and Caitlin Shales are the three players named in the Round 16 side.

PREDICTION

Swan Districts should win, and win well with a very strong and experienced lineup against quite a young and inexperienced Thunder team. It will be a great chance for Peel to try and take it up to the Swans, though on paper it looms as a one-sided contest just off experience alone.

  • Team
  • Subiaco
  • West Perth

FORM

West Perth got back on the winner’s list with a commanding victory over East Perth, making it two wins from three matches, but both against bottom three opponents. The Falcons have struggled with a mounting injury list to compete against the best, and Subiaco – who is now outright top spot and percentage – is humming perfectly.

TEAMS

CHANGES

Both these sides have made a number of changes for the big game, with Subiaco being minus the likes of Beatrice Devlyn (West Australian Under 18s), Aimee Schmidt and Tiah Toth all come out of the team among five changes for the Lions. Danika Pisconeri and Eva Popovsky return, while Lauren Bilaloski, Sian Bosich and Jess Pillera get another opportunity.

West Perth lose Rikisha Nannup along with Tayah Nicholson (Rogers Cup) and Jekylah Garlett, but regain a mix of players in Olivia Ferguson, Taylah McGorlick and Chloe Metcalf for the crucial contest.

PREDICTION

Given Subiaco’s form, it is impossible to look past the Lions in this one. It would go a long way towards the Falcons’ finals hopes if they could get up, but they are up against it considering the strength and experience of the opposition.

  • Team
  • Perth
  • East Fremantle

FORM

Perth is fresh off its second WAFLW win of the season after knocking over Peel Thunder to further make history in the Demons’ inaugural year. East Fremantle’s victory over Claremont was sensational in Round 15, which extended the winning streak to four since going down to Subiaco in Round 11.

TEAMS

CHANGES

Both sides have made minimal changes for the clash, with Demons defender Addison Opalinski representing the State Under 18s, while Tui Wineti is the other out. Skye Elliott and Amber Wyatt return to the Perth League team. The only change for East Fremantle is Noa McNaughton making her return with Nadya Browne making way.

PREDICTION

East Fremantle’s form is as good as anyone’s in the competition at the moment so the Sharks are the tip, even on the road. Perth has been ultra-impressive even in the second half of the Demons’ inaugural season, so expect them to not give the Sharks an easy win.
