TALENTED Brisbane Lions Academy member Charlotte Mullins has put Wilston Grange to the sword with a ridiculous midfield performance for Aspley during the Hornets’ eight-goal win in Round 9 of the Queensland Australian Football League (QAFL) Women’s competition.

The Hornets won 10.8 (68) defeated Wilston Grange 3.2 (20) as Mullins was a clear best on ground, dominating with a massive 30 disposals, whilst running at a slick 83 per cent efficiency. In particular, Mullins’ kicking was top notch with 20 of her 23 kicks being effective. Managing to run at a 45.2 per cent contested rate, Mullins racked up eight clearances, took five marks, laid three tackles and had five inside 50s, whilst also kicking a goal. The talented utility is rated in the top 30 players nationally and top five in Queensland.

Also having another good day out after a best on ground effort the week before, Ella Smith racked up 17 disposals, two clearances, three marks and four tackles, running at 82 per cent efficiency. Lions teammate Lilu Hung also played and picked up 13 disposals – 85 per cnet efficiency – as well as five marks, six tackles, three inside 50s and a goal.

In what was billed as the game of the round, the University of Queensland got over Southport by 27 points, with the Red Lionesses slotting 6.3 (39) to 1.6 (12). Lions on-baller Ava Seton cracked in to pick up 19 disposals, two marks and three clearances in the win. Forward Kadie Fletcher (six disposals, two marks and two tackles) also played in the game. For the Sharks, top AFLW Draft prospect Alana Gee picked up 13 disposals, four marks, two clearances and three tackles in defeat.

Maroochydore tall Kiara Hillier picked up 18 disposals and laid six tackles during the Roos’ 2.3 (15) to 2.3 (15) draw with Bond University. The Bull Sharks were without their portion of AFLW Draft Combine invites, though Sydney Swans recruit Ruby Sargent-Wilson played and picked up 16 disposals and laid two tackles. Queensland state over-ager Caitlin Thorne also played and was among the best with 24 disposals, three marks – two intercept – and three tackles in defence.

In the final game, Coorparoo had no issues disposing of Yeronga South Brisbane by 55 points, recording a 9.9 (63) to 1.2 (8) victory. Charlotte Howard was one Queensland Academy talent who played, picking up six disposals and laying two tackles in the victory. Former Calder Cannons player Makeisha Muller booted 2.3 from 16 disposals, two tackles and six inside 50s, while ex-Brisbane Lions forward Jess Wuetschner (12 disposals, three inside 50s and a goal) returned to the Kings.

There were several Lions Academy members who fronted up for Yeronga South Brisbane, with Courtney Browne managing 14 disposals, two marks and three clearances in the loss, while twin sister Sarah had three tackles and one touch. Talented bottom-ager Ebony Milne recorded the 12 disposals for the Red Lionesses.

QAFL:

Noosa Tigers picked up a strong 16-point win over Palm Beach Currumbin, despite the best efforts of bottom-ager Jed Walter, who recorded 15 touches and a massive nine marks – five contested – along with 3.2 on the scoreboard. Noosa top-ager Shadeau Brain picking up 12 disposals, six marks and booting two goals as a target up forward, while for Palm Beach Currumbin, over-ager Will Bella had nine disposals, four marks and seven hitouts in the loss.

The only other Allies squad member to run out in the QAFL this week was Lions father-son prospect Jaspa Fletcher. The Sherwood teenager picked up 21 disposals at 86 per cent efficiency, while also taking three marks, laying three tackles, having four inside 50s and slotting a goal. He ran at 43.4 per cent contested rate for the match.
