TWO title contenders in the WAFL Women’s competition will go head-to-head in a special Monday evening clash at the WACA when East Fremantle plays hosts to South Fremantle. West Perth won the only other game of Round 13 yesterday, defeating East Perth by 16 points in the Royals’ closest defeat thus far, and attention turns to the Sharks and Bulldogs clash from 4:45pm local time today.

FORM

Since going down to Subiaco by 10 points in a shock loss – and only collecting two points in the space of a month – East Fremantle bounced back with two wins over East Perth and West Perth to move back inside the top four. South Fremantle is cruising along nicely and though the Bulldogs dropped their first game after winning seven in a row back in Round 11, dominated Peel Thunder last week.

CHANGES

East Fremantle has regained ruck/forward Georgie Cleaver for the clash, with fellow youngster Natasha Entwistle also back in. The two players going out and named as emergencies are Kim Boulton and Elsie Simpson.

South Fremantle has made the three changes, with Megan Bain, Cali Hunt and Jasmine Bazeley coming in, with Trinity Brown and Kiara Templeman among the three out of the game.

KEY PLAYERS

The Sharks have plenty of quality across the ground with the midfield highlighted by skipper Ashleigh Gomes, reigning Dhara Kerr Medallist Sharon Wong and bottom-age jet Zippy Fish. Up forward, the young twin towers of Cleaver and Anjelique Raison, as well as in the in-form Chloe Reilly and Ashlee Atkins will be a handful.

For the Bulldogs, young gun Renee Morgan was outstanding on debut last week, with fellow State Academy members, Molly O’Hehir and Noa McNaughton also impressive. Casey Byrne and Bethany Bond are more than capable of hitting the scoreboard in a big way, while ruck Ariana Hetherington and midfielder Charli Wicksteed have been in terrific form.

PREDICTION

South Fremantle is in outstanding form winning eight of its last nine games and only losing to Claremont this season. The Sharks best is good enough to get the win, but the Bulldogs best has been more consistent this year, so will be favourites to come away with the four points.
