Smillie soars back into RMC Medal lead

Smillie now has five three-vote games to his name to top the leaderboard with 16 overall; two ahead of Dandenong midfielder-forward Cooper Hynes, and three in front of Oakleigh onballer Jagga Smith. He has polled in six outings – the same number as Hynes and fourth-placed Zak Johnson.
Another player climbing the leaderboard is Sandringham forward Joshua Dolan. The speedy, hard running Vic Metro representative is now level with captain Levi Ashcroft as the Dragons’ top vote getter, after bagging a full set of three in the region’s 27-point win over Northern.
Elsewhere, Player of the Week Zac Harding was also dominant in a losing side, as his Murray Bushrangers went down to Dandenong. The imposing ruck posted 28 disposals, 26 hitouts and two goals to get the nod and earn his first three RMC Medal votes for the season.
After being rotated out of the Vic Country squad, Bendigo Pioneers midfielder-forward Archer Day-Wicks served a reminder of his talent. The Pios may have been defeated by Greater Western Victoria, but Day-Wicks was the best player afield with 24 disposals, six marks and three goals.
Western Jets captain Keighton Matofai-Forbes produced the round’s fifth three-vote game, which has earned him a call-up to the Vic Metro squad for Sunday’s clash with Vic Country. The powerful forward kicked 3.3 from 14 touches and eight marks in his first game since Round 9.
