2025 Victorian summer hub squads released
VICTORIA’s most talented boys and girls from across the state will converge on the first of two camps in the next week, with Vic Country and Vic Metro’s summer hub squads released today. The hubs serve as the first preparations for the 2025 AFL and AFL Women’s Under 18 Championships with players primarily top-agers (2007-born) as well as a few bottom-age (2008-born) talents.
The first Vic Country camp will take place at The Hangar in Tullamarine, with the girls running across this Sunday and Monday, while the boys will take their place from Monday to Tuesday. Vic Metro’s programs will head to La Trobe University in Bundoora, with the boys also on Monday to Tuesday, while the girls will take part from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The second camps will be held in late January, with Vic Country headed for Gippsland Power’s High Performance Centre in Morwell, while Vic Metro will go to Deakin University in Waurn Ponds.
In 2025, Vic Country will be lead by Gippsland Power’s Rhett McLennan (boys) and GWV Rebels’ Sally Riley (girls), with the latter taking over the reigns from Mel Hickey who will be on maternity leave. For Vic Metro, Eastern Ranges’ Lauren Morecroft will earn the head coach role from outgoing mentor Rob Harding, while title-winning coach from Oakleigh Chargers, Ty Vickery will retain the role for the girls.
Among the familiar names in the squads are Vic Country’s Willem Duursma (brother of Xavier, Yasmin and Zane) and Cody Walker (son of former Carlton player Andrew) and Geelong Falcons’ Meg Lappin (daughter of former Brisbane player Nigel).
For Metro, Tyson Gresham (brother of Jade) and Thomas McGuane (son of former Collingwood player Mick) are a couple of names from the boys, while Eastern Ranges’ Brylee Anderson (sister of recently drafted Hawk Cody) is a bottom-age prospect. The full list of players from both squads are below.
