2026 WAFLW State Team locked in to face Croweaters
WESTERN Australia will be out to snap its 0-2 start against the SANFLW across the past two years and get a win on home turf against the Croweaters on Saturday. The WAFLW has assembled its strongest side to-date, with a stack of in-form players and balanced mix between talls and smalls. Having lost by 16 points (2024) and eight points (2025) to the South Australians, the WAFLW – again coached by Jack Schwarze – will be hoping to turn the tables on the tri-colours.
From the initial squad, a locked in side of 24 players was confirmed recently, with 22 named for gameday and a further two emergencies. The two unlucky players who are ready in the case of late changes are South Fremantle’s Madison Evans and West Perth’s Liliana Grassenis, with the Falcons the only team without a representative named in the starting side.
On-field, the black and gold will be lead by Dhara Kerr Medalist Jayme Harken with her namesake Jaime Henry, and Subiaco duo Krstel Petrevski and Lisa Steane all named co vice-captains. The midfield is stacked with the aforementioned names, and the likes of other stars such as Paige Sheppard and Natasha Entwistle, while big improver Jess Freame has been named down back with ex-AFLW players Matilda Sergeant, Annabel Johnson and Mackenzie Webb, and Webb’s East Fremantle teammate Tiani Teakle.
Up front, pocket rocket Makaela Tuhakaraina and the classy Lucy Greenwood are alongside Perth star Isabella Shannon and ex-Eagle Courtney Lindgren. The likes of Poppy Stockwell and the versatile Jae Flynn can provide options off the bench, while Perth tall Sienna Timmermans and Demons co-captain Holly Britton also made the side, as did former Swans AFLW talent, Ruby Sargent-Wilson
Coach Schwarze said he was looking forward to the representative clash, which kicks off from 12:40pm on Saturday at Sullivan Logistics Stadium as part of a triple-header with the WA Under 18s and Under 20s boys match before, and the men’s WAFL and SANFL clash after.
“We feel that we’ve picked a really well-balanced side with a mix of youth and experience,” Schwarze said.
“It’s great to see 10 new faces in the squad, with many earning their spot after strong form in the ATCO WAFLW competition.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for our side to reverse the result in Adelaide last year.
“To play in front of a home crowd will lift our players in what’s going to be an exciting triple-header of representative football at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.”
