SANFLW locks in squad for WAFLW clash

SOUTH Australia has trimmed down its State Team squad for Saturday’s battle with the WAFLW in Perth on Saturday, with the SANFLW including a number of potential debutants based on early season form. The SANFLW secured a win over the VFLW last month, and will be looking to keep its unbeaten record against the WAFLW intact.

While the Croweaters lost Katelyn Rosenzweig to a knee injury in the aforementioned VFLW game forcing at least one change, the selectors have called up a number of fresh faces to potentially don the state colours for the first time at senior level. They include the likes of Georgia King (Sturt) Dakota Williams (Central District), Isla Wiencke (Glenelg) and Ella Metcalfe (North Adelaide), as well as ex-Docker now returning Panther Holly Ifould who was an emergency for game one.

All eight SANFLW clubs are represented with South Adelaide and Woodville-West Torrens boasting five players in the squad, while Central District (four) and Norwood (three) also have multiple representatives. The team has added extra fierceness around the ball, as well as speed on the outside, to counter the different strengths between the VFLW and WAFLW sides.

Selection chairman and SANFL Now Commentator Phil Aspinall and coach Narelle Smith are looking to continue the success against the Sandgropers, having won by 16 points in 2024 at Optus Stadium, before posting an eight-point victory last year back at Adelaide Oval.
