2025 WAFLW Team of the Week: Round 4

SUBIACO’s impressive win over East Fremantle earned the Lions a league-high five players in the WAFL Women’s Team of the Week for Round 4. Subiaco lead all-comers with fellow winners Claremont and Swan Districts each having three – as did East Fremantle – while the remaining five sides all had two representatives.

Swan Districts top-age midfielder Carys D’Addario deserving the honour after a 30-disposal performance in the Swans’ win over Peel Thunder. She holds up the midfield alongside Subiaco pair Krstel Petrevski and Lisa Steane, while Lions ruck Tess Lyons earned the number one ruck role for the Round 4 side.

The wings hail from both Perth teams in action with Jess Verbrugge (East Perth) and Isabella Shannon (Perth) edged out to the wings with the strength of the on-ball group over the weekend. Alongside the three Subiaco centre square players, the Lions also had Maggie MacLachlan – pushed to half-back – and returning West Coast star Dana Hooker.

D’Addario shared the representative honours from the Swans with fellow midfield partner Jaime Henry, while Kayley King kicked two majors in the victory and Isabella Edgley was huge in the back 50 with 31 touches. Swan Districts’ opponents Peel Thunder had two players in the side this week in Holly Bilcich and Chloe Wrigley.

Reigning premiers Claremont boast four players in the team, with Juliet Kelly named off half-back after doing well behind the ball, while midfielders Sarah Viney (two goals), Jacinta Valentini and Sasha Goranova were all fantastic against South Fremantle. Bulldogs forward Poppy Stockwell booted three goals and was named vice-captain, while Alyssa Smogavec was the other South player in the side.

In the tight tussle between Perth and East Perth, Fina Dethlefsen‘s three goals for the Demons earned her a spot up forward, while for the Royals Brianna Cleggett joined Verbrugge. East Fremantle went down but still had the most of any losing side with three players, headlined by Maya Louvel-Finn who made it for a fourth straight week. Fellow defender Tiani Teakle anchors the team at full-back, while up the other end Sarah Wielstra‘s work inside 50 secured her a spot on the bench.

While the depth for Round 4 was plentiful, the three emergencies chosen were Charlie Fletcher, Paige Sheppard and Lucy Single, all of whom provided important transitional running to their sides going forward.
