A TOP-against-bottom clash closes out Round 7 of SANFL Women’s action as the unbeaten Eagles face off against the winless Glenelg, while in the other Sunday game, both North Adelaide and Norwood will be hungry for a win as part of the mid-table long-jam.
- Team
North Adelaide
Norwood
FORM
North Adelaide enters the match off indifferent form with a couple of huge wins – including beating two of the other top four sides – before going down to ladder leaders Woodville-West Torrens last round. The Roosters will be keen to avenge that loss, while Norwood finally snatched up a vital two points by getting past Glenelg, but must start ticking over the wins if the Redlegs are to play a part in the finals series.
TEAMS
North Adelaide:

INT: Candice Belbin, Charlee Brooksby, Emma Clark, Charli Hazelhurst, Amelia Rusden
CHANGES
North Adelaide has made at least three changes, omitting Laura Niejalke, Brooke Wilson and Libby Taylor while naming an extended squad. Coming into the side as part of that are the likes of Lauren Gauci, Ash George and Sky Jensen, with Jasmine Dallimore and Tayla Gordon rounding out the potential five inclusions. By comparison, the Redlegs were forced to make a change with skipper Steph Simmonds injuring her hamstring in the win over Glenelg. She has been replaced by returning defender, Sophie Arkun.
AFLW DRAFT WATCH
The Roosters have been bloody a number of youth players this season with Polly Turner and Lucy Reddaway exciting up forward. Since coming into the team Caitlin Hardin has impressed through the middle, while Bailey Murray provides a rebounding role off half-back. For the Roosters, Kate Alexander has the opportunity to really take control in this encounter through the ruck, while Lottie Almond was strong on debut, and the smooth-moving pair of Charli Hazelhurst and Charlee Brooksby provide that important run and carry.
PREDICTION
North Adelaide has been in the better form this season so it is too difficult to tip against them, but perhaps the win over Glenelg and then the week-long break can provide the Redlegs with the spark needed to go on with the job.
- Team
Glenelg
Woodville-West Torrens
FORM
It is a top-against bottom clash to close out the weekend with the unbeaten Woodville-West Torrens taking on the winless Glenelg. It is generally agreed upon that seven wins is enough to secure a finals spot which is what the Eagles will get with a victory here. The Bays are already three games behind the top four, and would need a huge second half of the season to reach the post-season series.
TEAMS
Glenelg:
B: Lauren Edwards, Tessa Davis
HB: Mackenzie O’Dea, Ash Dyer-Pietsch, Marie Martino
C: Madisyn Freeman, Millie Clarke, Samantha Franson
HF: Asha Dufour, Cassie McWilliam, Kiahni Russell
F: Kaitey Whittaker, Charlotte O’Sullivan
R: Chloe Harding, Jessica Bates, Georgie Fielder
INT: Shaylee Dayman, Eloise Mackereth, Ella Quinn, Ellen Tyminski, Matilda Wilmore
Woodville-West Torrens:
B: Zahlia Niemann, Popi Gikas
HB: Sophie Zuill, Audrey Holt, Bianca Portaro
C: Lucy Moore, Cheryllee Waters, Annie Falkenberg
HF: Olivia Evans, Kayleigh Cronin, Ashley Baker
F: Imogen Trengove, Klaudia O’Neill
R: Leah Cutting, Marlie Fiegert, Julia Faulkner
INT: Amie Blanden, Mackenzie Dowrick, Maia Freemantle, Christina Leuzzi, Rosette Zerella
CHANGES
Glenelg will unveil Under 16s talent Charlotte O’Sullivan as she makes her debut coming into the side along with the versatile Madisyn Freeman. The duo replace Alex Pearce and Lakeisha Sheffield in the team. Unfortunately the Eagles will be without co-captain Poppy Waterford who heartbreakingly tore her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) last round. Kayleigh Cronin has replaced her in the team.
AFLW DRAFT WATCH
Along with O’Sullivan, the Bays have a good mix of draftable talent, headlined by National Academy member Eloise Mackereth up forward. She has Matilda Wilmore there at her feet, while Georgie Fielder and Tessa Davis have been influential through the midfield and in defence respectively. Eagles top-ager Imogen Trengove has been named up forward and can play on all three lines, while midfielders Julia Faulkner and Lucy Moore have shown experience beyond their years. Under 16s All-Australian captain Maia Freemantle is a talented prospect to watch over the next few years.
PREDICTION
A fairly straight forward prediction here given the relative ladder positions and seasons of the respective sides. Woodville-West Torrens just needs to keep its form rolling, while Glenelg needs to find a way to score in order to put pressure on the opposition. A break might have done the Bays good to attack it hard from the outset with nothing to lose.
