PREVIEW | 2025 WAFLW – Round 18: Saturday

A CLASH between the WAFL Women’s two bottom sides is the standalone contest on Saturday, which brings plenty of belief to both teams that they can finish the 2025 season on a high. East Perth will not be able to catch Perth’s percentage regardless, but would love nothing more than to notch up a second win against their cross-town rival.

FORM

East Perth’s only victory this season came against Perth back in Round 4 where they got up by nine points despite a fierce comeback from the Demons. Since then, the Royals have lost 12 on the trot and are desperate to finish on a high. For the Demons, they knocked off South Fremantle for a maiden WAFLW victory, then doubled up a few weeks back against Peel Thunder to ensure they would not collect the wooden spoon in their inaugural season.

TEAMS

CHANGES

Perth has just made two changes for the contest with Lauren Davey and Amber Wyatt coming into the team for Skye Elliott and Abby Green. Meanwhile three players have switched places in the Royals’ 21 as they welcome back Layla Firns, Kahra Sprlyan and Neve McAlister, while Taylor Drummond, Olivia Earle and Abby Critchell go out.

AFLW DRAFT WATCH

Exciting forward/midfielders Lucy Greenwood and Charli Bassett provide a spark to the Royals’ front half and also work up the ground to use their skills in transition. Expect Mia Carlshausen and Sienna Timmermans to potentially roll onto them at some stage, while Addison Opalinski has been named at half-forward for a change. The running half-back/wing/onballer is continuing her position roulette, and is among a front five featuring bottom-age tackle machine Mel Grage.

PREDICTION

Perth has been in better form and rarely gets smashed, while the Royals have been battling at times to put a winning score on the board and more often just trying to defend. They will get more opportunities to score against an equally inexperienced side, but it is hard to look past the Demons who considering their lack of League experience have been impressive and entertaining in season 2025.
