CALDER Cannons are up next in our Player of the AFL Era series which will be run through our Instagram channel starting at 12.30pm today. The Bendigo Pioneers All-Star voting was completed yesterday with Dustin Martin announced as the winner and captain of the Pioneers’ side. The Cannons have a rich history of draftees and are well known as a ‘footy factory’ when it comes to producing high quality draftees. When deciding on the top 16 to compete in the vote, it was incredibly tough, with Collingwood’ Dane Swan earning the top seeding, while the likes of Geelong premiership stars, Paul Chapman and James Kelly earn a place as second and third seeds. Interestingly, the Calder Cannons draw also features a NAB League Talent Manager (Tom Lonergan) and coach (Ryan O’Keefe), the former still being with the Cannons program.

The voting will run over the next four days starting today, with the winner to be decided by Monday night (unless extra time and the full 24 hours is needed in the final vote). For South Australian fans, you will have your first club coming up next week with Central District being the next club involved in the voting process. All eligible players were selected thanks to the Draft Guru site.
