Leagues: Coates Talent League Boys
Vic Metro Under 16 representative Jed Rule has somewhat been hidden away from the eyes of draft watcher in 2021, with his commitments to Carey Grammar in the APS Football competition taking up a majority of his season. Despite this, Rule has taken his chances at NAB League level to show his strong intercept game both aerially and at ground level, positioning well behind the ball and then using it efficiently on both sides of his body coming out of the defensive 50.
In three NAB League outings this season, the 18-year-old averaged 11.7 disposals, 5.3 marks and 3.3 rebound 50s to earn selection in the Victorian trials and a call-up to the 120-man draft combine list. As a defender who can intercept and thus play above his 191cm standing, Rule offers great defensive versatility and could be a viable option to match it with those tricky forwards who are too tall for smaller markers, but too nimble for key position players.
